Amid Winter Roses: Christmas Eve in the Garden - The Sacred and The Scarlet

Amid Winter Roses:
Christmas Eve in the Garden

The Sacred and The Scarlet

On this Christmas Eve, in the quiet heart of Lilith’s Garden and beyond, the Marys lift their faces, hands still joined, petals resting soft on their skin.

Together they breathe a simple, heartfelt thanksgiving:

“Lord Jesus,
Beloved Light born in the hush of night,
we give You thanks.

For coming to us so small, so vulnerable,
wrapped in a young mother’s love
and a stable’s straw.

For letting women be the first to hold You,
to cradle the hope of the world
against their hearts.

For the scarlet love that wept at Your feet,
and the sacred love that stood faithful at Your cross
thank You for receiving them both,
for making room for every shade of devotion.

For the black and red roses that bloom
in the quiet of winter’s morn,
for the owl that keeps silent watch,
for the light that refuses to be extinguished
even in our longest nights
we give You thanks.

For every child stirring in a womb this morning,
for every weary heart finding courage to carry on,
for grace that meets us in hidden gardens
and broken places
we give You endless thanks.

You who were birthed by woman,
loved through the dark,
and rose with the unstoppable morning:
our hearts are full of gratitude.

Glory to You, O Lord,
now and forever.

Amen.”

In the stillness that follows, the roses seem to bow, red and black - Selene’s snow owl eyes soften, and the air itself feels lighter, as though heaven leans close to listen on this holy Christmas Eve.

Thanks be to God.
